1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I’ve always kept journals and diaries to document the crazy happening sin my life. So when I heard about Blogger in 2002, I knew I wanted to join in the fun. I started in 2003. I blogged almost every night before I went to bed, mostly about family stories. I was writing for the newspaper then, so I would also share links to stories I had published. I didn’t even know how to post  a picture back then! Little did I know that my blogging would lead to a career in authoring books!

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
That’s a tough one, I have more than 3,000 tutorials on my blog! Here’s one! I have a very colorful art studio and love to share the projects I’ve made for it. Most recently, I decorated an old touctone phone decoden style!

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
Hmmm…I used to be a concert promoter, I loved it and was really good at it! I ended up using those skills to promote my brand!

4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?
To keep coming up with fresh content, new ideas, topics that will keep people coming back, sharing blogs of others. Basically spreading positivity through creativity!

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?
I really enjoy the BlogHer conferences. I’m also attending Craftcation next month in Ventura, CA. It’s centered around DIY bloggers! And then I’m attending Hispanicize, which I’m really excited about! I love that there are conferences for every branch of what I’m about.

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
I have several! To be genuine, not try to appear to be perfect. To always give credit where credit is due. Cite your sources, hot link, shine the spotlight on others, brand your photos, offer content of value!

7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?
Yes, I love it, we have such a positive community!

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?
Honestly, I never look or think in terms of labels like that. Although I do think of levels of experience, frequency, commitment, professionalism.

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
I hope to expand my books, I’m also an author. I write both creativity books and novels. I hope to keep building on my blog, never stopping, life is full of so many juicy topics to share!

10. Anything else you would like add? Please check out all my sites!

Thanks Loren!

Blogging interview with Ginger Snap Crafts!

Ginger Snap Crafts
I have Ginger from Ginger snap craft over sharing her life and blogging with use. I hope you enjoy reading about it as much I did! Can you guess her hidden talent?
1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I started our family blog over 5 years ago. We had moved out of our home state where all of our family lives, and before we moved my sister said, “You need to start a blog.”  I was like “What’s a blog?” I had never heard of one before! Once I started blogging  I absolutely fell in love with it. I love documenting our family’s adventures. They grow up so fast, and I want to remember everything. 🙂

I started reading craft blogs about 3 years ago, and I started my craft blog almost 2 years ago while my hubby was out of town!  I didn’t really put a lot of thought into it….I just thought hey…this might be fun. 🙂

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?

I don’t know if I have a favorite! I like them all! ha! Probably my favorite projects are the ones I’ve made using my Silhouette. I bought my first Silhouette 3 years ago, and I’m still amazed at what it can do, & I’m still learning new things it can do every day. I also LOVE sharing my sewing projects.  I’m new at sewing, so any project that involves sewing is so awesome! I know if I can do it, you can, too. I’m also on the PSA Essentials Design Team, and I’ve had fun learning how to stamp. 🙂

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?

Oh that’s a hard one….well, let’s see when I was younger I loved gymnastics. I would spend hours practicing flips, back bends & cartwheels in my backyard. 🙂  I can still do a pretty mean cartwheel! ha!

4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?

This year I want to simplify my blogging.  I want to have a better balance between my family life & blogging life.  I want to go to bed earlier! I don’t think I’ve slept 8 hours straight since I started blogging. I want to continue to build my relationships with other bloggers & my readers.  I would love to help promote smaller bloggers more.

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?

I attended Bloggy Boot Camp in Dallas last September. I would recommend BBC for a first time conference.  It gives you a taste of what going to a conference is like. I’ll be attending Snap in April. Eek!  I’m both nervous & excited about that. 🙂

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?

My biggest tip in blogging would be to find a “blog tribe”. I love mine!  It’s a place to vent, ask questions, help each other out & build friendships. Reach out to bloggers that are similar in size, style & topic as you & create a private facebook group where you can talk freely & be yourself. 🙂

7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?

Yes! The craft blogging community is so supportive.  I’ve had many bloggers reach out to me. I had no idea how many like minded friends I would create from blogging.  It’s amazing! 🙂

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?

I still feel the same as I did when I had 10 followers (and they were all my family!). Half the time I don’t even think of myself as ablogger! I think everyone should do the best they can & try not to compare your blog with someone else’s. Really we are all super stars. Everyone else just doesn’t know it yet! 🙂

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?

Oh I don’t know!  Who knows? My youngest goes to kindergarten in 2 years.  So by then I’ll have more time to focus on the business end of blogging.  In the next year or two I’d love to add contributors to Ginger Snap Crafts.  I’d love to help promote smaller & newer blogs. I’d like to continue to build relationships with some of my favorite companies. I’d love for my readership & page views to grow. I’d love to learn more about blog design.

10. Anything else you would like add?

Blogging Interview with A girl and a glue gun

Cover photo

Today we are joined by Kimbo from A girl and a glue gun! I think her blog name is so catchy! Take a seat and join getting to know her and her journey.

1. What’s the reason you began blogging?

in reality—i was losing me. my husband was commuting and i was a mom day in and day out (which isn’t a bad thing….) but i felt like i was losing my identity. and blogging brought that back for me!

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
oh geez…that’s like trying to pick a favorite kid…or candy bar. impossible. the one i use the most is my menu board….http://www.kimboscrafts.blogspot.com/2010/04/whats-for-dinner.html it’s a live saver and has saved me so much time and effort!

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers? well…i’m pretty open with my readers….i don’t hold back too much (i think sometimes maybe they wish i would hold back a little bit) but i can put my foot behind my head. which got me the nickname limber kimber….pretty proud of it.

4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?

my blogging goals–i have a lot. prioritize makes the list every year. sometimes i get so caught up with the computer i let other things fall by the wayside. another goal is to focus on getting my photography better…and in general to be more serious about it. i love it and want to turn blogging into a successful business—so i’m working hard at making that happen!

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?

i think if you can make it to any or all it will be worth it. i think there is a wealth of information to be had…and the relationships you develop with other bloggers are invaluable!!!! go! (i say this because i haven’t gone to one yet and i’m jealous of everything i hear when people get back and post on their blogs!)

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?

Be yourself. you can’t be tatertots and jello…..you can’t be house of smiths…you can’t build things like ana white (okay..you might be able too..i can NOT) but be YOU. people come to your blog because of you. let your personality SHINE!

7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?

in real life..i’m shy. i don’t approach people–it’s awkward.  (one reason i love blogging…) i do find it alot more easier to email people..especially bloggers that i feel a kinship with by reading their blogs. blogger friendships have just naturally happened…by commenting..emailing..instagramming. i feel like some of these gals are my bff….and i have never met them in real life….

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?

no such thing. blogging is no longer a numbers game….I used to think that if i had a bunch of comments it was a super popular post…now i’m lucky to reach 10 comments on any post…even one that i think it is amazing– people are too busy pinteresting or facebooking to leave comments…and there are a few blogs i follow that i LOVE, adore..think they are the most amazing…and they don’t have very many followers…so i think the real questions is this: are you a SERIOUS blogger, semi-serious…or a for fun blogger. there are the people who are serious…SEO, Linky parties..the whole nine….there is the semi serious that posts pretty often and likes blogging but that’s about it…crafting and posting. and the for fun bloggers that post whenever they want…feel no obligation to it.

sometimes i miss the for fun blogging! ha!

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
i love blogging…and i can never see any spot in my future that doesn’t include crafting and bloggin…so…in 5 years…if i’m still blogging…i will be pretty dang happy.

and if i could make a buttload of money…i would be even more happy.

I hope you all enjoyed the interview and stop by for more fun tomorrow.

Blogging Tips interview with Jaderbomb

logo
jaderbomb
Today we have Jade from Jaderbomb who I just meet at CHA convention for five minutes and I feel in love with her. Now I am stalking her on instagram and her blog. She has the most warm and friendly personality I have even encountered. You know one of those people who you instantly know you want to be friends with because they could add goodness to your life. Well that’s what I got from her in the first five minutes. haha. Anyways, here is Jade being honest to what blogging means to her.
1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I am always making things and giving them as gifts. A few friends wanted to know how I made their gifts and said I should start a blog so everyone can see how to make it. I had no idea it would lead me into such a bright and blessed future. I guess sometimes things pop into your life and you just have to run with it.
2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
Gosh. I am not sure if I am capable of choosing just one. That is like asking me what my favorite color is, hehe. I fall in love with mostly all of my project but this folk art plate is my favorite, today.
3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
Well. I am a dancer. I started dancing when I was really young and continued all of my life. I danced on ESPN twice, which was really memorable. Not sure if this is a hidden talent, then again I don’t dance on my You Tube channel so I guess it is.
4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?
To BUILD my brand. Stay focused on dreams and go after them. I have always done that but I plan to work the Universe extra hard this year. We are gonna see if my energy can make some real magic happen.
5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?
Yes! I went to BlogHer in July and I just came back from CHA. I believe each one offers different things so I can’t really recommend just one. I think if you go to as many conferences you can go to, it can’t hurt only help. You NEVER know who you will meet. Be bold and go up to people if you go to any. You can’t wait on someone else to do that.
6.What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
Hmmmm. I would have to say it was to never change who I was. It’s hard to stay true sometimes because we all get in competition mode. You have to know you are doing what you are doing because it purely makes you happy. I always enjoy reading blogs that feel like I am actually talking to that person. If it’s “too” perfect I tend to glaze over it.
7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?
YES! The niche I am in makes it really easy. Everyone is super supportive, but don’t let me fool you. There are always a few people who just don’t have your back. But that’s ok because remember question #6? You are doing this because it makes YOU happy.
8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?
Gosh. I my world I am as big as big can be. I have that much self worth I guess. There will always gonna be someone above you “number” wise but I don’t think it’s good to compare on that level. As a blogger you will always learn from everyone so as long as you think you are number 1 then you are shooting for the stars!
9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
Ok, 5 years. I see myself with a product line, a book written and a manager. HAHA. Fine, minus the manager. I am too OCD and I like to do everything myself. I also see my blog continuing to inspire whoever see’s it. That is my ultimate goal. I like to show my readers that they can do exactly what I did, in no time. It’s the greatest pleasure.
10. Anything else you would like add?
I think when you get that feeling in the bottom of your itty bitty gut, you know that feeling! Right? It’s the feeling of happiness. Keep that always because it’s your best friend and will keep you on a bright path. ASK. BELIEVE. RECEIVE.
Thank you Jade for stopping by!
Stay crafty everyone,

Blogging tips from Flamingo Toes!

glasses2
Today we are joined by Beverly from Flamingo Toes!! I just love her tutorials and I also got to meet her at the SoCal conference last year.  She was a wonderful host and I had a blast getting to know other bloggers in the area. Let’s get to know her a little better.
1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
Before I started my blog I was a lurker. 🙂 I read blogs all the time and tried projects – and talked about starting a blog of my own. This went on for several months until my husband (strongly lol) encouraged me to just start my own. So I dived in and really didn’t expect it to do much. I figured at the worst case I’d have a record of the things I was making and learning. I really didn’t think anyone would read it – much less comment or come back and follow!
2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
Oh that’s like picking a favorite kid. 🙂 I have so many projects that I love but I’ll pick the most recent one. We’ve been needing a new entertainment cabinet for a while and just before Christmas I finished up my biggest project yet – converting an old dresser we found on Craigslist into our new Cabinet! You can check out the post here: http://www.flamingotoes.com/2013/01/repurposed-dresser-to-entertainment-center/

Refinished Dresser to Entertainment Center
3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
Let’s see – that’s tough. I can recite the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers almost word for word. I also can make balloon animals and super yummy wontons – but I don’t recommend doing those at the same time.
4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?
I have some big plans for the blog in 2013! I am excited for this next year. I have several patterns in the works that I’m looking forward to releasing – as well as some big projects that will be happening this year. I blogged about my goals here:http://www.flamingotoes.com/2013/01/this-years-stuff-id-like-to-do-post/. I’m determined to not let fear or nervousness keep from accomplishing everything I want to do this year!
5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend? I love blogging conferences!! They are such a great way to meet and connect with other bloggers, as well as to learn how to grow your blog. The friendships I’ve made at these conferences are so important to me!
I was able to attend Snap last year and I am excited about going again this year! I also co-plan a one day Blogging Event in Southern California with Vivienne from The V Spot called The SoCal Social. 2013 will be our third year putting on this event and it is so much fun!! It’s just a social time to hang out, shop, and eat – all while connecting with other local bloggers!
6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
I think the best tip I received was to develop a network of other bloggers to connect with. I think this makes such a huge difference. It is so great to be able to connect with other bloggers – so you can share and help promote, help each other out when there are problems, and just have other people who you can talk to about this same crazy ride. These bloggers have become such great friends and I am very thankful I have them to go to when something awesome (or something not so awesome) happens. 🙂
7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?
I didn’t initially – I was pretty intimidated. I felt like everyone was sooo crazy talented and I’m sure they would really want to answer my questions or help out, especially the “bigger” bloggers. I was SO wrong. Everyone seems so willing to help each other out and make connections!
8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog, a medium blog, large blog and a super star?
Oh I’m a medium blog – that’s easy, from a numbers standpoint. And that’s way ok with me. I don’t need to be a large superstar blog – I am really happy with where things are at. I feel like I have the best readers in the world and I think if things were bigger and busier I’d have a hard time keeping up!
9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
Wow 5 years is a long way off! I’d say in five years I’d love to still be blogging about my creations, and I’d have a couple craft books on the shelves with my name on the cover. 🙂 If we’re dreaming big anyway.
10. Anything else you would like add?
Thanks so much for including me in this series Loren! I’m excited to get to know the other bloggers too!

Thank you so much for stopping by and I hope you join use tomorrow for more blogger love!

Stay crafty!!

Blogging tips from Blog Guidebook

Blog Guidebook

Today we have Sarah over from Blog guidebook. When I first started blogging I was over at this site everyday trying to figure out my blog. If you have a blogging question you could stop by Blog Guidebook and they have a tutorial for it!

1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I started blogging as a sort of journal/scrapbook. Luckily when I met Lyndsay (via email) we were able to use both our talents
as bloggers…Lyndsay is the design guru and I’m the idea and fulfillment person.

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
My favorite is painting my kitchen cabinets a bright aqua color. They were a dark wood color which I painted pale blue,
then I needed something bright and turned to aqua.
My other favorite is painting brick walls w/ a spray bottle. It was an amazing transformation!

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
Well, because my blog is pretty much specifically geared toward blogging and DIY blogging, I haven’t talked much about food…
which is one of my passions. I love baking and icing cakes and cookies.

4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?

Goals…let’s see. We’re focusing on really communicating one on one with our readers, leaving comments and replies, and of course,
growing our blog even more by branching out into new venues (such as crafts and recipes).

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?

Sarah went to The SITS Girls Bloggy Bootcamp last year in St. Louis…it was just to meet other bloggers and see what the conference thing is all about. It was amazing! This year she is going to Phoenix to attend the SITS Girls Bloggy Business Camp. Definitely recommend the Bloggy Bootcamp…it’s affordable for most bloggers and you learn a lot! There are many we’d LOVE to attend…Snap and BYB come to mind.

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?

You can’t blog alone. You have to have a partner or a group of bloggers to help you. If you try to do it on your own you will burn out and not grow.  If you have a “tribe” you will have supporters that can tell their readers about you too. Having regular contributors helps take the performance pressure off too.

7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?

I think so. Of course, if they are “famous” you can’t reach them because of the assistants and email machines, but smallerbloggers, new bloggers are good at asking for help and emailing back and forth.

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?

When we started blogging we hoped for about a thousand followers…now almost three years later we are grateful for our 3000+ (GFC) and all the others who read in us in their emails and readers. We try not to compare ourselves to super blogs (because they’re just the lucky ones!) mostly because there are so many amazing blogs out in blogland…I found one recently that only had 200 followers but it was SOOOOO good! Don’t compare yourself to others (another rule of blogging).

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?

I have no idea where the blog “industry” will be in five years. Hopefully it will still exist and be going strong. If it starts waning, then I’ll get my brain turning and move onto the next project. As long as we can keep helping the average Jane blog her best we will be here. We’d love to find something amazing to do with our blog…we’ll keep trying new things and meeting new bloggers. One long term goal would be to host our own “conference” and do it our way!

10. Anything else you would like add?

Thanks so much for the questions. They were answered by Sarah of The Blog Guidebook.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you stop by tomorrow for more fun.

Blogging Tips from Barbara from Chase the Star

Cover photo

Today we are joined by Barbara over from Chase the Star. She has wonderful insight about blogging and a wonderful blog you should all stop by.

1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I began blogging a few months after moving into my house.  Because my budget was tight, I found myself constantly working on some sort of DIY project, and becoming more and more addicted to blogs as I sought direction!  At my husband’s suggestion, I started my own blog…now there’s no turning back!
2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
It’s hard to choose just one because it’s all a labor of love, but if I have to choose then I’ll go with my most popular post, the chevron file cabinet makeover.  I love the color combination!

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
I have a decent singing voice…also some may or may not know that I’m fully bilingual in Spanish (is that a talent?!)
4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?
In 2013 hope to grow my blog and broaden my audience.  I also hope to move towards a focus on home décor.  I am a crafter and still want to incorporate these into my blog; however, I’d like the emphasis to be more on DIY and home decor, which is my true passion.
5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?
I haven’t attended any but I have plans to attend the SNAP Conference in April.  I can’t wait!
6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
The best blogging tip I’ve received was to become part of a community of bloggers, or a ‘blogging tribe’ where you join with like- minded bloggers and not only support each other, but help to promote each other.  It really helps that other members of my ‘tribe’, The Creative Headquarters, are a fantastic group of highly talented bloggers!  We have become great friends too, which is a big plus! Since teaming up with these ladies, my blog traffic has tripled!
7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?
I think Facebook and Google +, and local events like (such as the SoCal Social) have made it much easier to connect with other bloggers.  There are many groups to join on the social media circuit, and I have always found that bloggers will typically respond to emails and comments in a timely manner.
8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog, a medium blog, large blog and a super star?
Truthfully I have no idea where I lie in those categories.  Well I can say I am not ‘large’ and definitely not ‘super star’.  I suppose I can comfortably fit somewhere between ‘small’ and ‘medium’, and I can’t answer as to how I determine that!
9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
I see myself connecting with my readers through more personal posts, allowing them to get to know the person behind the projects a little more.  I also hope to develop my brand and grow to where I can become a full-time blogger.
10. Anything else you would like add?
Thank you Loren for interviewing me.  I hope you were able to get a little more insight on “Chase the Star”, and I appreciate you taking the time to put this together!

Blogging Interview with Kadie from Seven Alive

Cover photo
Today we have a special guest with Kadie from Seven Alive. She has wonderful DIY tutorials and you should stop by and show some love!
1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
I began blogging because I am far away from my mom and sister (who I would normally craft with).  I was looking for some like minded people to connect with.  Crafting is a way for me to keep my sanity and pretty my home at the same time.
2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
Probably my all time favorite would have to be the t.v. tray turned create table for my kids.  It was the first thing I made that got featured and my kids still love to use it.
3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?
I can clog.  I took clogging for several years as a child and can still do most of the steps.
4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?
More than anything else I want to be consistent with what I have already set up in my blog.  I have finally found a posting schedule that works for me, and I feel like I am putting up quality posts.  Getting my photography better is an on going goal as is continuing to meet other bloggers/crafters.
5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?
I have never attended a blogging conference.  I would love to be able to get to one someday.
6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
Blog about what you love.  It doesn’t matter what it is if you love it and have a passion for it that will come through in your blogging.
7. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
Wow five years is a long time.  My oldest will be graduating high school, and my youngest will be in 2nd grade.  So things will be different for me in that I wont have any kiddos home all day.  What that would mean for the blog I’m not sure, hopefully it will still be going strong and continuing to grow.
8. Anything else you would like add?
nope.:)

Blogging Interview with Emily from 52 Mantels

52 Mantels

We are joined today by Emily and she is one of my many favorite bloggers. I just love he blog and stop by often. Come and take a look at what she had to say about blogging!

1. What’s the reason you began blogging?

I began blogging to give me a creative outlet. I’ve always loved doing crafty and creative projects and blogging gave me the platform to share those projects with others. I really love the motivation and challenge blogging gives me to be creative every day!

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done? Please include a picture.

My favorite DIY project is my daughter’s nursery. I especially love the large, wall-mounted, MDF birds and the mod flower window treatment I made with my father-in-law. Her room makes me smile every time I enter it 🙂

3. What hidden talent do you have, in which you have not shared with your fellow readers?

I’ve been a registered nurse for 10 years and spent 7 of those years in the Neonatal ICU. So, I guess my hidden talent is starting tiny IVs in tiny infant scalps. Is that a talent??

4. What are your blogging goals have you set for 2013?

My goal in 2013 is to find the right balance between my personal life and my blogging life. I love blogging, but my priority has to be my family. Sometimes it’s easy to get caught up in deadlines and projects, but my goal is to remain balanced and focused on what’s really important!

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?

The only conference I’ve attended in Bloggy Bootcamp in Dallas last year. This year I’ll be attending SNAP and I am SO excited!

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?

Network, network, network! Leave comments, participate in social media and develop relationships with other bloggers. You never know where those relationships will take you!

7. Do you find it easy in reaching out to other bloggers?

Yes! Blogging is a close community and most bloggers are eager to hear from their fans and readers. I find that most bloggers are receptive when I approach them with a question. However, I always give people the benefit of the doubt when they don’t respond right away (or at all!). Sometimes an email or comment slips through the cracks on busy days. If you really want to connect with a blogger, it doesn’t hurt to reach out a second time!

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?

Hmm…that’s an interesting question. I guess if you feel like a super star, you are one! 🙂 But, truly, in blogging and in life, comparison is a dangerous game. I try really hard not to compare myself to other blogs because it leaves me feeling inadequate. Instead, I challenge myself to be the best I can be and to grow every day.

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?

Honestly, I haven’t given my blog a five-year plan! Personally, I hope I’ll have another kid or two. And, I hope I’ll have finally learned to sew pretty, frilly, girly dresses. If I have, you can bet that’ll be on my blog!

10. Anything else you would like add?

Blogging is a wonderful hobby and such a blessing at this stage in my life. But, the best blessing of all is my family! They inspire me to challenge my limits…and my creativity…every.single.day!

Thank you Emily for your wonderful insight!

Interview with Amy from One Artsy Mama

Today I have another wonderful treat coming from Amy at One Artsy Mama in continuing out 14 days of blogger love! I just love getting to know our fellow bloggers and Amy has a wonderful story to tell.

1. What’s the reason you began blogging?
Prior to March of 2011, I was totally unaware of the whole craft-blogging world.  I was doing a simple online search for a kids’ St. Patrick’s Day project to do with my {then} 2 year old son and his friend, when I came upon a blog called That Artist Woman.  She had tons of fabulous art projects listed, and even an index where you could search by holiday.  I have always been totally interested in all kinds of art and crafting projects, and it was like a light bulb went off in my head… “I could do this too!  I could put up all the things my Little Crafter and/or I have done and we could share our ideas with other people!”  And so, that day, I went on blogger, chose a name, and started something that changed my life.  At the beginning, I had no idea about all the other amazing blogs and bloggers out there or the reach I’d eventually have.  I never dreamed of having more than 2200 Facebook fans or having opportunities to review products and even make money by doing this.  My original intention was just to share my own projects and ideas in the hope of inspiring someone else, just like my motto says…create, share, love, inspire.  Despite how the blog has grown and evolved over the past almost-two-years, that’s still at the heart of what I do.

2. What’s your favorite DIY project you have done?
Only one?!  There are so many I love, for such different reasons!  I guess if I have to choose, I’d say it was when I redid our bathroom vanity using paint and a stencil pattern from Cutting Edge Stencils.  It was the first time I ever actually tried doing something with furniture, and I was so excited about the end result.  I still smile when I see it, because I’m so proud that I was able to transform it from something ugly into a work of art!

3. What hidden talent do you have, which you have not shared with your readers?
Hmm.  Well, they all know I’m a ballroom dancer, but that’s a fun one to pull out on people who don’t know it.  I don’t know if I’ve ever shared with my readers that I love to sing {alto} and that I have been playing the piano since I was three years old.  I’ll happily sing in front of any size crowd you want, but don’t ask me to play the piano in front of even two people…I freeze up.

4. What blogging goals have you set for 2013?
By January of next year, I hope to have successfully run another round of One Crafty Contest, as well as two or three sessions of the Growing Together Blog Mentoring Program.  I hope to have more fun opportunities for product reviews and giveaways, and to continually improve my photography skills so that craftgawker will accept more of my submissions than they reject…haha.   I’d also like to double my Facebook following and page views per day so that I have the opportunity to inspire even more people.  Oh, and I’d love to actually finish my “Growing Your Blog” e-book.

5. It seems like it that time of the year where a lot of blogging conference are happening. Have you attended any and if so which one would you recommend?
No, but I would sure love to.  I dream of attending SNAP!

6. What was the best blogging tip you ever received and would pass on?
I don’t know that I can single out just one tip, but I’ll say that the most valuable information and feedback I’ve gotten thus far has come from a small, tight-knit group of bloggers I belong to.  It’s a great place to share ideas and questions and to figure this whole thing out together.  So, my best advice would actually be to find a group of bloggers you respect and enjoy talking with and form a small group {ours is a private Facebook group} where you can have the same kind of experience.

7. Do you find it easy reaching out to other bloggers?
Yes and no.  I think that it’s super-easy to approach anyone whose blog is smaller to or equal to mine in size, popularity, following, etc.  I do have to admit that I don’t often reach out to bloggers who have ten times my following.  I figure they’re way too busy to respond, but I guess that isn’t really giving them a fair chance to prove themselves just as generous, thoughtful, kind, and helpful as the rest of the people I’ve interacted with in the blogosphere, now is it?

8. How do you believe you are able to determine yourself between a small blog,a medium blog, large blog and a super star?
I think of a small blog as someone who is just starting out, who perhaps doesn’t post regularly, who has fewer than maybe 300 followers.  A medium blog may have been around longer and the blogger is starting to develop her following and gain a few sponsors.  A large blog has an established following of regular readers and the blogger has probably learned how to effectively interact with them via social media and develop a sense of community.  She probably has multiple sponsors and has somewhat regular sponsored post/review opportunities.  A super star is someone with a crazy-big number of followers, who gets asked to speak at all the conferences, and whose name, blog name, and face we all recognize.  At least that’s my two cents…

9. Where do you see yourself and your blog in five years?
I’d love to be at the point where my blog is a familiar name to others in our niche and is known for fun, high-quality projects and clear tutorials.  I also want to be known as a blogger who is friendly, approachable, helpful, and encouraging, regardless of what my stats may be.  One other thing I’d love to be able to do is make enough money from the blog and my Etsy sales to pay for my son’s tuition to private school.  I’ve found a school that’s just perfect for him, but it’s a bit of a stretch for our budget.

10. Anything else you would like add?
I just want to thank you for the opportunity to be interviewed, Loren, and to thank everyone in the blogging community for being so supportive and inspiring.  And just plain fun too!  I’ve “met” such wonderful friends and I look forward to many more fun experiences of inspiring each other as we all continue to create, love, share, and inspire!
