The last 9 years I have always had a fake Christmas tree. We have moved with that tree all over country and along way it started losing pine needles. Last year was our first year that we decided to get a real Christmas tree and I was on the fence about it. However, have you see much more expensive fake Christmas tree have gotten? It seemed a real one might be a better idea for us and with it the idea of Christmas Tree Ornament wooden slice was born. Or should I say tradition.
Getting the Christmas tree ornament wooden slice did not cross my mind till after Christmas. We cut the slice once we removed the tree and it made a huge mess when we lay it down to cut the tree. I had a mess of dry pine needles all over my carpet and was still finding then a few days later. However, this year we asked the associate at home depot to cut a little extra slice from the end to be our Christmas tree ornament slice with date. The associate was very friendly and glad to cut it for us.
I much preferred cutting it before we put the tree up is because the wood is soft and easier to hammer into. We used screw hooks for the top of the Christmas tree ornament slice date since the slice can be heavy.
I used Tim Holtz Idea-ology mini numerals to place in front of the wooden slice. You can find them at any craft store near you.
I dated last year Christmas tree ornament slice with the Tim Holtz idea-ology mini numerals with 2015 and for this year 2016. I used tiny nails that you can find at any hardware store. All you really need to do is hammer them in and you are done!
I am so happy how they came out! I also glad how fast they are to make because when you have three little kiddos with so much energetic energy, I only have time for fast and easy.
The Christmas tree ornament wooden slice for this year I add a wire ribbon bow to make it more festive.
Wish you all a wonderful holiday!
