Halloween is the perfect time to send out my Halloween coffins party invitations. I always want to have a Halloween party however, it can be daunting and time consuming and I always seem to go against it. The only thing is I always seem to do invitations. I just love sharing a little piece of Halloween spirit with all my friends.
Every year I see these unstained/unpainted coffins and I always seem to gravitate and to them and could never find the right idea to use them. Halloween invitation coffins is the perfect gift to give to all my friends this Halloween. Since the the coffins are raw, I used acrylic paint to paint them black. As well as I stained few with red mahogany stain.
Needed to make small shelves inside the coffins with thick chipboard. Measured the chipboard which I cut then painted black with acrylic. I had to measure each coffin since each one is slightly different from the next.
The stained coffins I actually used the stain on the chipboard. You might want to use some gloves when using the stain because it will get on your fingers. Chipboard will suck up the stain very well.
The fun part for me is decorating the inside of each coffin. I used a variety of trinkets to decorate each one. I used Tim Holtz glass bottles, glass beads for flowers vases, Tim Holtz frames, hot glue, inks, Tim Holtz wish bones, and Tim Holtz metal skulls. Each coffins was decorated differenly. Inside of each of the vials I used colored ink.
I am so happy on how they came out. Used Tim Holtz frames and paper for the picture frame of the witch. Hot glued all the vials to the shelves. Also used the hot glue to make messy spider webs. As you can imagine I burn my finger tips a few times.
In some of the coffins I actually used scrapbook paper to cover the inside with mod podge as well as the shelves. It was a messy job but it was worth it. I hot glued all the shelves into each Halloween coffins party invitations. On this particular coffin I used a resin frame with Tim Holtz mirror paper. I do believe the spider web looks much better on this Halloween coffins party invitation. The skull is from real bone and then stained. I got the skull from one of my visits to the local Gem Faire.
As you can see with the black coffins I used crackled paint to make the paint look weathered on top of each coffin.
I wanted to add spider web embossing to the coffins.
I used the Tim Holtz embossing ink with silver embossing powder.
First stamp the spider stamp once your press it unto the embossing ink to the coffin. Followed by pouring some embossing powder unto the coffins to cover where you stamped the spider web. Remove any access unto a piece of paper to pour back into the bottle.
You can take your heat tool and go over the embossing powder, make sure you don’t over heat it and burn it. Now you are almost done.
I could not stop there to make my final mark, I added a seal to each coffin on the side. Noticed that the seal became hard to break when trying to open the coffin. so I had to slice through it myself before sending them out.
