Halloween Coffins Party Invitations

Halloween is the perfect time to send out my Halloween coffins party invitations. I always want to have a Halloween party however, it can be daunting and time consuming and I always seem to go against it. The only thing is I always seem to do invitations. I just love sharing a little piece of Halloween spirit with all my friends.

tim holtz, ranger, Halloween invitations, halloween invitations coffins, invitations, halloween glass, diy, oddities, wicked, skulls,

Every year I see these unstained/unpainted coffins and I always seem to gravitate and  to them and could never find the right idea to use them. Halloween invitation coffins is the perfect gift to give to all my friends this Halloween. Since the the coffins are raw,  I used acrylic paint to paint them black. As well as I stained few with red mahogany stain.

Needed to make small shelves inside the coffins with thick chipboard. Measured the chipboard which I cut then painted black with acrylic. I had to measure each coffin since each one is slightly different from the next.

The stained coffins I actually used the stain on the chipboard. You might want to use some gloves when using the stain because it will get on your fingers. Chipboard will suck up the stain very well.

The fun part for me is decorating the inside of each coffin. I used a variety of trinkets to decorate each one. I used Tim Holtz glass bottles, glass beads for flowers vases, Tim Holtz frames, hot glue, inks, Tim Holtz wish bones, and Tim Holtz metal skulls. Each coffins was decorated differenly.  Inside of each of the vials I used colored ink.

I am so happy on how they came out. Used Tim Holtz frames and paper for the picture frame of the witch. Hot glued all the vials to the shelves. Also used the hot glue to make messy spider webs. As you can imagine I burn my finger tips a few times.

In some of the coffins I actually used scrapbook paper to cover the inside with mod podge as well as the shelves. It was a messy job but it was worth it. I hot glued all the shelves into each Halloween coffins party invitations.  On this particular coffin I used a resin frame with Tim Holtz mirror paper. I do believe the spider web looks much better on this Halloween coffins party invitation. The skull is from real bone and then stained. I got the skull from one of my visits to the local Gem Faire.

As you can see with the black coffins I used crackled paint to make the paint look weathered on top of each coffin.

I wanted to add spider web embossing to the coffins.

I used the Tim Holtz embossing ink with silver embossing powder.

First stamp the spider stamp once your press it unto the embossing ink to the coffin. Followed by pouring some embossing powder unto the coffins to cover where you stamped the spider web. Remove any access unto a piece of paper to pour back into the bottle.

You can take your heat tool and go over the embossing powder, make sure you don’t over heat it and burn it. Now you are almost done.

I could not stop there to make my final mark, I added a seal to each coffin on the side.  Noticed that the seal became hard to break when trying to open the coffin. so I had to slice through it myself before sending them out.

I hope my friends all love it!

How to make a Witch Broom for Halloween Decor or Costumes

When I was a  little girl I always enjoyed dressing up as a witch almost every Halloween. I just enjoyed the the mystery and the history that witches have with all Hollows eve and could not wait to dress up. As an adult I really want my Halloween costumes to be more realist and with much less plastic. I looked around for a witch broom and noticed that their are not a lot of options or in the style I would like to own.  Then it came to me to just make my very own witch broom!

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

I went on the hunt at my local craft shops for wooden sticks and anything that I could use to make my witch broom. Started looking for the three parts that make up parts of the witch broom.

Halloween, Halloween broom, witch broom, diy, Disney witch broom, disney broom, joanns fabric, michaels store, halloween costume, evil witch broom,

Once I got all my items together, I went to work with my twine and straw or sea grass on this instance.  The sea grass was my top choice because it look much more realistic on my witch broom and of course it was on sale!

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

I went a head and tied small amounts of sea grass at a time around my wooden stick, which happens to be a bamboo stick. The bamboo stick had a rich dark color which I really liked and went with my decor.

I also decided to make a different witch broom  and more in the style of a winter witch inspiration.

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

Tied a small amount of twigs first then added more and tied it around over each other. Repeated the same steps until the wood was completely covered with twigs.

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

Dried sticks which I got from Trader Joe’s that smell from like cinnamon. Perfect for all year around decor. Purchased two and took them apart to use on the witch broom as seen above. Trust me when I tell you to maybe use something underneath while taking it apart because it will leave a mess and not fun to step on when walking around.

The final look it great and makes great all year decor. I used it to set next to my door or during the rest of the year it actually over my door way. Keeping all the negativity outside my door and non in my home year around.

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

I have two different kind of witch brooms ready for hollows eve! My darker broom is much taller and a little bit more fragile and I keep it upside down and next to one of my favorite chairs.

white-witch-broom,-diy, wicked-broom, disney-broom, halloween-costumes, halloween, halloween-decor,

What will you be this Halloween? I hoping to dress myself my littles as the Sanderson sisters because its not Halloween with out Hocus Pocus.

Snow Globe Mason Jar Car

Last year, it was very popular to have a snow globe mason jar car with a Christmas tree. I was very happy with me version and excited to unpack it from my this Christmas. However, I had one little problem. I place it on its new home and it seemed to not stand out as much as I wanted too. I left it there for a couple of days and still it did not seem right. So what to do with my snow globe mason jar car?

Then it came to me, it needs light! I went to look in my stash to see what kid of light I could have hidden away. I found a light strand for decorating flowers.

I took the car out and wrapped the miniature Christmas tree with the lights. Sealed it up and it was all done!

I have another Christmas Tag #4!

I was inspired by fireplaces. I just love fireplaces but I’ve only had one once in my life and so wish to have one again. I enjoy decorating them and making them all festive during the holidays. I mostly used Tim Holtz material to make this faux fireplace Christmas tag.

Birch Wood Stocking Holder

Every year I see everyone decorating their mantle in their home. However, I live in apartment my entire life and I have only once had one with a fireplace, mostly because we have always lived in very warm states. I decided this year to make hanging faux fireplace for myself kinda, hehe. I had a birch wood in the closet waiting around for me do something with it for about a year. I finally found a new way to bring life to it this Christmas.

I decided to use white yarn to hold up the birch wood stocking holder. I tied each end to my shutters or you can use an empty wall.

I then used white yarn to also tie the stockings to the wood. Its that simple and fast to do.

I wanted to cover up the sections to were I tied the birch to the shutters. I used two of my wooden deer stencils I made last year. Click here to see the full tutorial.

Hallmark Star Wars

If you have not guessed it yet, I had the opportunity to go to Hallmark before the whole Christmas rush and get my hands on some itty bitty Star Wars blush toys. My kiddos had so much fun picking out the decorations which I hope to use on my Christmas tree. I have been refraining from taking out the Christmas tree before Thanksgiving because I do believe on one holiday at a time. However, I do like getting a few new ornaments each year to make out Christmas tree that more especial.

As most mom get to realize out kiddos seem to grow that much faster each passing year. I always say before we know it they will be off to college and you are standing there wondering where did the time go?  Hallmark help me keep out traditions and memories a live with picking out new ornaments at their stores. The Kiddos are so excited about the new Star Wars movie coming out which I thought it would be fun to have a few Star wars Ornaments.

The Hallmark Star Wars Ornaments are perfect for decorations for the holidays and also for the kiddos to play with once the tree gets put away in January. Come and watch a small video about the cute itty bitty Hallmark Star Wars blush and my kitty decided to make an appearance too!

Thanks for visiting and Happy Holiday’s

Halloween-reading

Bedtime Routine Talk, Read and Sing

As mommies we learn pretty fast that having a bedtime routine for any child is key is having a successful quite bed time. I know that if I don’t talk, read and sing to my kiddos before bed that they will go down crying and sneaking out of their rooms. I always try my best to not disturb that routine even when daddy has to work late. At times not having daddy at bedtime can cause a little trouble in my home. Especially since daddy is the one who finishes getting the little energy they might have out of them before bed with playtime.

When it comes to bedtime “Talk Read Sing” is key to keeping everyone happy and mommy very sane. One of the thing I do with my kiddos before bed is reading their favorite books. Of course with the more kiddos you have the more books you end up reading. However, I could never say no when it comes to buying books or reading to them. You always want to expand their imagination and create wonderful memories especially since they won’t stay little for ever.

Talk-read-sing

We also talk about what we read, I always want to make sure my kiddos understand the story and I like to ask questions about what happens in the story and why they think it happened. You can’t imagine the thing you might hear from your kiddos at times.

However, talk should also be happening during the day. I know when I was a new mommy it was hard to talk mostly to myself all day while my kiddo was a baby but they enjoy it so much. Don’t worry you are not the only crazy mommy out their talking to themselves, hehe. I especially like talking while we are gardening. If you don’t believe me doing these simple thing will help then go take a look at First 5 California to find out more.

reading, talking, singing

Singing is my favorite part of the bedtime routine talk, read and sing. My kiddos will not go to bed happy and quietly with out having their song. My mommy was never a singer but my hubby was lucky enough to have a mommy who loved to sing. As a tradition we sing the same song that his mommy did. Each family has their own which will bring sentiment and mean more your family. You might think you don’t have a good singing voice and trust me I don’t either but your kiddos won’t care they will just remember the time you spent with them. They will always cherish those memories more than anything and so will you.

If you are looking for more ideas to share with you family try the First 5 California as a great resource for activities for newborns, babies, toddlers and preschoolers. There’s a whole section (Activity Center) on things that parents can do with their kids to help stimulate the mind.

What is your bedtime routine talk, read sing?

Upcycled Halloween inspired tray

Its the best time of the and it means it Halloween. I joined other blogger in making upcycled Halloween inspired tray which we all got from out local target. I decided to transform my tray completely and of course I had a little help from the hubby. I learned a couple new things from the hubby and I ended with a beautifully haunted Halloween tray. If you are telling yourself you can’t make out little Halloween diorama, you can always go to your local craft store and purchase miniature figures to make your very own upcycled Halloween inspired tray like ours.

upcycled Halloween inspired tray, Halloween pumpkins, Halloween crafts, Halloween diy, Halloween tray, target inspired, clay Halloween village, miniature Halloween figures,

We began by making each little figure by hand and using sculpey hard clay, which we like to use due because it wont deform under the heat of your hand. The last thing you want is to keep leaving your finger print or nail prints all over your clay while working with it.

Once we completed all the sculpting we prime them black to make them easier to paint. My hubby used a combination of hand painting and air brushing. Its super fun to air brush and I can’t wait to use it in my other projects in the futures.

Using the tray I decided to used fake grass from my local craft store and real dirt on top of that to add another dimension. I covered the sided of the tray with tape to make sure the dirt will not fall out and make a mess all over my house.

I went ahead and then began placing my figures in the tray. However, something still seemed to be missing and I got my little miniature fence to hot glue around the tray. I was so happy with the end result and I am thinking of expanding my little Halloween village

Halloween Pumpkin Diorama

As I unpacked all the Halloween decor this year. I found that I had a lot of pumpkins. I was wondering what I would do with all the pumpkins that would be different from last year and I remembered that I had a lot of decorative Halloween miniatures. The idea of a Halloween pumpkin diorama was born. I’ve been waiting to to a diorama of some sort for a while and was excited finally be using my miniatures since I’ve been purchasing them every year when they go on sale at the end of the Halloween season. The truth is that the best time to purchase Halloween decor is after Halloween, hehe.

I grabbed my fake white pumpkin and cut the back of it with a knife.

I then went a head and painted the inside with black acrylic paint. Once it was try I went ahead and started to add the Halloween miniatures and some moss to add more texture. I also added some light to the inside to illuminated it and everyone can see it a little better.

I added some cardboard at the bottom to lift the grave sit up so it can be more visible and I also hid the light switch.

Last but not least I added a bow to the top of the pumpkin. I used a ribbon that I had purchased last year from the local craft store.
