DIY mini crate stocking holder tutorial

My favorite thing to do this Holiday season is my Christmas Stockings, especially since I am making and extra one for my little baby girl. I decided to make a little vintage crate stocking holders instead of my wooden letters I did a previous year. In each box I added a key element which made it especially for that one person I love so much in my life.

I got the small crates at Hobby lobby but you can find different one at any craft store. I stained them dark wood.
I used Minwax which is my favorite stain ever! One small can has lasted me over a year.

I added a stain with a brush across the front part of the mini crate.

I waited about 30 seconds and wiped off any extra stain left on the top of the wood. I used gloves and a old rag for this part. If not your hands will smell like stain for a couple of days.

Once it was all stained, I let it dry over night.

I got some foliage and filled each mini crate for my stockings with a different theme. I wanted each mini crate to  represent one member of my family. My son picked out a reindeer.

I made of my special bundle of joy that join us this past week. She got a present because she was much of surprise for us and got lucky enough to come before Christmas.

Its tradition every year to get a couple hand picked ornament for our Christmas tree. It has become tradition now that my hubby picks out the ugliest ornament he can find, well at least to me they are a little ugly.

My mini crate Christmas stocking holder have mini frames with each of our names on it. I place the wooden crate on top of the weight stocking holder and you are ready to hang your stocking this holiday season.

What will you be putting your stocking holder?

Christmas topiary tree red nose reindeer tutorial

I decided that holiday decor does not have to be so serious all the time and since I have a silly little boy at home. I wanted to make a  Christmas topiary tree that look like a the red nose reindeer! My hubby has been having a laugh at my reindeer all week. My son just loves it and makes him smile.

The project is super easy and it takes almost no time at all.  My little man helped out with making our little red nose reindeer. I got most of my material from Michael’s which I just love because they are having an awesome sale on Christmas decor going on now.

No glue required just started plugging in all the pieces into the topiary ball.

Almost looking like a reindeer! I love the big glitter nose.

The eye are made of small foam balls and I just added black paint in the center. Now to get started with the body.

All you will need is garland, a stick and a pot.

I just wrapped the inside of the pot with the garland from one end and then did the same thing with the stick.

After all that just attach the topiary ball on top and you are done!
Now  you have your very own puppet red nose reindeer Christmas topiary tree!

I added a cute little bow to my reindeer to add a little bit more personality.

White Chalk Paint antique Chandelier tutorial

I got this Halloween Chandelier last year to decorate and I just love having it up all year around but it does not go with my decor all year around. So after much going back and forth. I decided to chalk paint white my Halloween chandelier and give it a little antique look which looks fantastic with my Christmas decor.

The chandelier was black and it had little looking spider legs on each platform where the candles go and I decided to cut does off.

I made my very one chalk paint if you want to find out the secret ingredient click here from one of my past projects.
I applied about three coats of chalk paint on the chandelier.

Once it was dried and all coats applied I took a damped cloth and removed any excess and I tried to make it look worn down. No sand paper need apply on this project.
Now it has that antique look and is going to match perfectly with my Christmas decor. However, I could not stop there!
I went to Hobby Lobby and got chandelier crystal ornament, imagine they have their Christmas ornaments and decor 50%! I also got glitter ornament balls to be place on each candle holder placer.
I am so happy with my little antique looking chalk paint chandelier that now I can keep up all year long.
Happy Holidays,

Burlap and Felt Reindeer Christmas Pillow Tutorial

Christmas is coming and I decided to start early this year because I have little one due around Thanksgiving and we won’t be in our right minds to decorate for Christmas. We really wanted to make sure our son still enjoyed Christmas. I decided to start with my couch and recovering the pillows with festive burlap and felt! I made a burlap and felt reindeer Christmas pillow.

The first thing I did was cut out the reindeer head on vinyl using my silhouette cutting machine, which is where I also got the reindeer image.

I went and purchased gray felt at Joann’s. I tried my best to center the image on the felt.

I traced an outline of the reindeer with sewing chalk.

I cut the traced line. It very easy to cut felt I found out, I usually have to fight with my fabric when I cut it. I can’t seen to be able to cut a straight line, hehe.

Now you have a pretty reindeer silhouette. I added HoHo red burlap also found at Joann’s. I added a square of Christmas burlap panel to the back of the felt and sew it on.

I decided to continue using the red HoHo burlap on the back making every other panel different.

Sew everything together and now you have your very one reindeer felt and burlap pillow for the holiday season.

I added a little pompom to the nose to make it a little more special for my son, the white nose reindeer. I also got snowflake burlap which is lovely and made two pillows out of it. I added fleece on the back because the hubby does not like burlap so we compromised. Now when he sits on the couch he can turn them over and be comfy and I can have the style when company comes over. The best of two worlds.

Halloween Inspired Hocus Pocus Eyeball Spell book Tutorial

Its Halloween and who does not like a good spell book that can look into your soul and tell you your darkest secrets! My leather bound eye book was the inspiration of the Hocus Pocus book of spells. I love its leathery look with its one eye watching the holder of its evil spells.

If you remember my other shadow box Halloween book of skeleton fairy its pretty much almost the same way to make. Click here see the tutorial. The only difference is that you won’t need to paint it black or add the skeleton to it. Instead you use and eye which I found a bag for 99 cent at Michael’s.

Once you have glued on the Kraft paper to the shadow box book leave extra patch of paper in the center of the book to cut it open and add your eyeball. I cut the eyeball in half so it does not pop out to far.

Once its dry you will need to distress it with gathered twigs.

Use a blending tool color the entire spell book.

Someone is staring at you!

Now that you had a blast distressing, its time to seal the ink. I really wanted the kraft paper to look leathery and using Claudine Hellmuth Studio multi-medium matte it gave that effect. I covered the book with the medium and let it dry.

You can applied it with a brush a little at time.

The inside of the book I wanted to store my 2012 Halloween tags. I covered the inside of the shadow box with scrapbook like my previous book. I added a I. D wire retractable to hang the tags on the inside of the shadow book. I crazy glued one end in the inside of the book and other other end to the inside of the cover.

Now you are able to hang you tags and it will retract once you close the book.

My tags now have home in my spell book!
Stay crafty everyone!

Bunting with Skeletons

Have you hear of bunting? I never did until I went to the Creative Tea Time and bunted my day away! Its the easiest and most relaxing thing you can do while sitting down and enjoying your favorite drink. I think bunting has been a well kept secret from me and I can’t believe I have not hear of it before until now.  Now I know what to use all my extra scraps of fabric I have store away.

I used black, orange fabric and mesh to a hoop ring. I really wanted it to be Halloween inspired and just loved all the fabric they provided for us at the Creative Tea Time event.

I added skeletons when I got home to make it a little creepy and its complete. Now to find a home for it. I just love Halloween can you tell?

Stay Crafty everyone!
