Skeleton-reaching-for-you

Framed Skeleton Tutorial

The spirits of the other side are ready to come out and play. Are you prepared the mischief they will cause? Using the a painting as a portal to the world of the living the evil spirits reaches for any passing soul to posses.
Watch out it might just me you.

Would you like to make one? Here are a few thing you will need.

Materials:
1. Cardboard (Free)
2. Skeleton (Michaels 14.99)
3. Modge Podge (own or 4.99 at Michaels)
4. Black paint & red paint  (.59 cent)
5. Burlap ($2.00 for half a yard)
6. foam brush (.10 cent)
7. Frame (Michaels on clearance $9.99)
8. Clay ($8.99 Michaels)
9.Tape (own)
10. 24 gauge wire (own)
11. Scissors (own)
12. Saw (own $4.99)
The first thing you will need to do is to cut the back of the skull of your skeleton because you want him to lay flat on the cardboard. Measure the cardboard to fit the inside of your frame. My frame is 8×10.
Position your skeleton, my skeleton name is Joe where you want him to be.
I felt bad cutting Joe up but he feel much better once all the extra weight is off.
I cut through the spice of Joe to make sure he could fit in the frame.

Mix modge podge with black paint with a foam brush.

Now the messy part starts, use the mixture and paint the burlap with it.

I told you it was going to get messy! Its going to look a little muddy but it will be worth it once it dries. You will need to cover the entire cardboard. Don’t lay the burlap flat on the cardboard because you will need some depth with it to make it look realistic.

Also use the modge podge to clue the down the skeleton. Let the burlap dry for at least 24 hours.

I wanted to have Joe reaching out for someone, so I took masking tape to hold the joints in place. I then used the burlap with modge podge to cover masking tape.

I did not stop there I also cut all the finger off and used the 24 gauge jewelry wire to reattach all the  fingers. Can you believe that Joe had to right hands before I did the surgery? haha. Now his finger can bend and point at you.

The last thing I did was make a heart out of clay to be place in rib cage.

Imagine that you are done with your skeleton frame tutorial. !!!

I think my puppy liked it.

Crafty Chica Iron on pillow

Crafty Chica Kathy stopped by Michaels here in San Diego and I was able to meet her. It was great to see her and her products.
Here is one of her items in here line at Michaels.
I got this wonderful Iron on transfer from Crafty Chica and I just loved the skeleton on it. I instantly knew what I wanted to do. The instruction are supper easy to use. You just pick you’re fabric and  iron it on with a thin towel or anything you have handy and ta-da!
It just transfer on to the fabric easily and no fuss. If you want and easy and beautiful craft for this holiday season then Crafty Chica Iron on transfer are it. You can find them at Michaels!!
After the transfer was done I used an old place mat then sew it together with the iron on transferred fabric.
I left one side open to place a small pillow that I purchased from Joann’s.
Finally,  I place the pillow in my favorite chair to make it more comfy. It just adds that extra touch of Halloween to the room.
Happy Halloween!!
Crafty Chica provided the iron on however, the opinon of this post is 100% mine.

How to make a beaded spider!

What do you think of my jewelry spider?!  Do you want to know how to make it? I used this cute little spider on my Halloween wreath and my tag. Here is what you will need.
1. Clear beads
2. Medium and small red beads
3. Spacers
4. Jewelry pliers
5. 24 gauge wire
The first thing you will need to do is cut the wire into 6 equal length and 2 wire need to be smaller in size then twist one of the ends into loops.  The wires you just cut will be the legs of the spider.
You can now cut another piece of wire the same length as the spider legs and again twist one end into a loop.  Once you have made loop place a clear round bead at the end, followed by a spacer and then a large colored bead.  Take all 8 legs that you have already looped and place them on the wire after the larger bead.
Now its going to start looking like a spider, add another spacer and then a smaller colored bead on the wire.  You will need to add a clear bead at the end of the last spacer before twisting into loop.
You will need this kind of bead for the legs. I found a small bag of these at Michaels and they where not cost you much more that two dollars.
One each leg you will alternate a small bead with a long bead until you reach the end of the wire and you twist it into a loop. Do this for all 8 legs and now you can rearrange the legs to make a lovely spider. At least this spider won’t bite you or crawl all over you!
Till next time!! I hope you are enjoying my Halloween tutorials.

DIY Halloween Place Mats

If you don’t know by now, I just love Halloween and I am being trying to figure out what would make my Halloween dinning table complete. Of course I need Halloween place mats! I had a lot of Halloween fabric from last year because every year I go purchase any new cute Halloween fabric from Joann’s. I went through my seasonal place mats and I noticed that I had black place mats that were looking pretty old and I did not want to throw them out so as a crafter what we do best?!
Re-purpose it with new fabric of course!
I decide to make each place mat differently, the first fabric I chose was from Joann’s last year collection but they also brought it back this year.  It has witches hats and pumpkins on it, I think its a very popular fabric for them to have it again this year. The first thing I did was cut the fabric a few inches smaller than the original place mat I am going to attach it to.
Then I cut the border fabric into strips of an inch and half.

All I did was sew the border to the center fabric and then iron it flat by the seems.
The last step is to sew the black place mat to the Halloween fabric and now you have your finished place mat.

I did two different versions of the Halloween place mats. The last place mat edges where not perfect but it adds to the imperfection of Halloween!

Burlap Halloween Wreath

Its that time again, Halloween tutorials! I just love Halloween and this year I started early getting my decorations out and planning what I am going to be doing for the next couple of weeks. My first project for any holiday is a Halloween wreath! Decorating the front door is the first thing I like to do because it sets the mood for the rest of the house.
First thing I was run to Joann’s  and purchased colored burlap fabric. They had a beautiful orange and black burlap fabric. I did not use the orange is this project but I am saving it for something good. I got half a yard of each and it only cost me $2 each.
Then I went to Michaels and purchased a green foam wreath.  I cut the burlap in long strips to go around the wreath. Oh by the way when cutting burlap just remember its going to itch! haha. I had little strands all over my arm and jeans by the end of the night.
Once you have made all the strips depending of the thickness,  half a yard should be more than enough. You can use a little bit of fabric glue to connect each strip and as you wrapped it around the wreath.
I did not trim the little thread because I thought it added that old spooky feel.
The next thing I started was the large wooden letters I got over at Michaels. They had them on clearance for $1 when usually they are about $3 each. It was a great buy and they had just the letters I need! I had quilt batting which I cut and twisted and stapled on the wooden letters.
If you have not been to Joanns to take a look at there Halloween fabric you should, they have very cute fabric just for the occasion.  I am so in love with this spider fabric I got there to cover the wooden letters.  I tied the letters to the wreath with black yarn. I did not want to glue them because I wanted to make sure it would be easy to store later on.
After I covered all three letters I stared on my spider web. I used yarn I had laying around for this part of the project. I cut ten pieces all the same length and then folded them in half and used bobbies pins to hold them in place on the wreath. I crossed them with each other toward the center of the wreath and it makes it look like a star.
Now the fun part begins which is to take a larger piece of white yarn fold it in half and wrap   around one of the string in the center of the web. Then you just put the open end of the yarn through the loop end and pull.
Once that is done then you just wrap the yarn around every pinned string.
Now you have a yarn spider web!
I wanted to add just something a little special to my wreath and I decided to add light to it. I found 10 wire lights at Michaels. I pierced through the burlap to hold the lights in place.
I wrapped the battery box with black yarn and tied it to the wreath.
Let the decorating begin! I added some black flowers that I got from Michaels.
I also added this cute little skeleton it would not be Halloween without one!
Last and not least I made jewelry spiders! I will have a tutorial for this beauties really soon.
I took out my last year Halloween wreath and I could see the difference on how my crafty talents have developed.
Last year I was very proud of my Halloween wreath and this year I am in love with my new Halloween wreath. It takes a lot of work and time to improve at anything and looking at last years crafts lets me know I am in the right path.
I hope you all enjoyed the tutorial!
