The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey sang by Dwarves or Peter Hollen?

Today is Geek Friday !
I am going about my usual and I found this wonderful video of Peter Hollen singing the entire song of Misty Mountain from the Hobbit with only vocals! I was entrance the entire time with his singing. I am telling you I had goose bumps! You would think he had Dwarves working for him to sing back up. He gives you multiple views of each vocal, so you know its him singing the entire song. I think this is genius! He has also made of Game of Throne version which was more theatrical which is awesome of course.

I promise you that the entire time you are hearing this song, all you will be doing is staring at him! To tell you the truth, I subscribe to his you tube before the song was over. So you don’t believe me? Go a head and watch it and tell me other wise. Come on, I dare you.
Thanks for stopping by and stay tune tomorrow for more blogger love!

Dinning Room Chair Repair and Reupholstering Makeover

crafts,makeover,chair reupholstering
You have no idea how much I have been hating my dinning room chairs. They have gone through a lot with me. They have been around for about seven years and over six moves with three being states moves. Lets not forget also having a baby. It a new year and  I wanted to bring some color to my home and lighten things up.

I was very lucky to have my wonderful mother in-law over for the holiday season and she gave the courage to  tackle this big project.
This project is rated C for Courage.
The wonderful part was that we got to bond and I did not even have to ask more than once because the next thing I knew she was tearing it apart. It was fantastic!
reupholstering, chair, DIY, craft, makeover, chair repair, staining, staples, foam
1. We remove the strip. All we needed was to pull hard because it was being help with glue.
2. Then it was time to remove the top fabric by removing the staples.
3. The foam was also stapled so I needed to remove more staples.
4. Yes, the cardboard was stapled in as well. I am starting to hate staples a lot!
5. Now to remove any lingering staples.
The seat of the chair was much more easily removed because it was just screwed in. Once all the fabric was off you will I needed to stain parts of the chair because time has not been gentle.
I also used a sealer by Krylon once the staining was tried.
While the sealer is trying we tacked the seat. We used the original fabric to trace a pattern in which to cut the  new fabric.
As you can see the old fabric was pretty beat up!
All we needed to do was wrap the fabric around the foam, the wooden base and staple it.
After all has been said and done all we needed to do was screw it back in to the chair base.

My mother inlaw Laurie help me pick out the fabric at Joann’s and I am just in love with it. It has all my favorite color in it. Can you guess which is my most favorite color?
We cut two circle circle of fabric one the exact size of the cardboard and the other half and inch bigger all around.

On the backside of the cardboard I had to glue the new fabric to it with spray on adhesive. I used Elmer’s Craft Bond. It work very nicely.

1. Once the adhesive was dry I place the cardboard back into the back of the chair and stapled it in place.
2. I place the foam on top of the cardboard and stapled it in place.
3. I used the fabric which I cut half and inch larger and stapled it to the inside of the chair. I tried not to pull the fabric too much because I wanted to keep some dimension to it.
4. I cut out any remnant that was sticking out once it was stapled.
Here is how the back looks like once it was place in! Now it give a pop of color from the back and the front. Its time to finish the front. Just a couple more steps.
1 & 2. We used the original lining strip and removed the old fabric.
3.We took the fabric that we used on the seat of the chair sew it over the rope.
4. Ta-Da! Now its time to hot glue it!

Super simple to do!
Can you see the difference now! It so much better than before and all it take its the courage to start. Do you have a project that you have been putting off because you think you can’t do it? Well guess what you are not the only one but its not that hard just give it a try.

Till next time stay crafty!!

Little Girl Room Decor

Its that time again. We have Nicole from Design it girl blog guest posting today with a super cute idea for little girls room. Come and take a look.
Pink, & Green
the perfect colors for a little girls room…

My client wanted Pink, and she couldn’t decide on the color for the Bow Back Windsor Chair!. Yellow was a color choice and I am glad she decided on the Green. Hollyhock Pink and Mint Leaf Green are the perfect color combination for her daughters chair. Lilly Pulitzer inspired, which goes well with her daughters beautifully decorated room in Lilly Pulitzer. Here are some of my Lilly Pulitzer favorites..delicious colors, reminds me of ice cream on a sugar cone on a hot summer day!

I love the way the desk and chair turned out.

Painting the drawer Hollyhock Pink
Still wet, Pink drawer…

Loving the way she turned out. I am very picky and I pay close
attention to detail, I’m not perfect but i try to work as
if the piece is for me.

What do you think?

The beautiful Bow Back Windsor Chair.

Painting the chair and desk was a lot of fun
and I must say, it turned out great! I had my moments, sanding
painting, sanding and painting again. When it’s for a client
you want the final look to be “wow, I love it”.
And…my client did, she loved the colors the
look and feel of both desk and chair.
yippeee!!!

Guest Post from Design it Girl with How to spray paint a night stand sea foam green.

Today we have Nicole from Design it Girl with a beautiful night stand  that she has painted sea foam green. Come and stay a while.
I purchased this Vintage Night Stand at the Salvation Army, it’s in great condition and needed some TLC. The original hardware is awesome, original brass and in great shape. I wasn’t sure about the color and was torn between Blue & Green, finally i decided on Sea Foam Green and thought “this was a great choice”. Using Rust-Oleum Spray paint primer (two coats) and then a few coats of Rust-Oleums Sea Foam Green, sprayed on evenly. sanding in between coats works best for a smoother end result. Here is the before:

Sad looking, it was talking to me and saying “take me home”…
Vintage Night Stand

Painters tape (blue tape) works great, easy to use for taping
furniture. especially. Removing the tape is easy, it doesn’t stick.

I love painting and spray painting furniture!
I have a paint sprayer too. i was a little
frustrated with the wind blowing and spray painting
became a challenge.

What do you think of the color?
Loving the way it looks, it still has a modern look,
This color is not a bright shade and gives it a more modern
feel.

Sea Foam Green, love this name brand works great for me.
The new nozzle makes it even easier to
spray. I also use this to keep my fingers from cramping and from painting my fingers which happens a lot.

Works great, and keeps the fingers from cramping…

I really like using sanding blocks, no more scrapping my finger tips.
Sanding blocks makes my job a whole lot easier, especially
sanding between coats, it covers a larger area without stripping
the paint.

I love how shes turning out, one more coat and ready
for my etsy shop. If you are interested send me an email.

How about the clover design? cute.

A light sanding and one more coat.

DIY cleaning your Brass (the real thing) Brasso works great!
it takes about 20-30 minutes to remove the old tarnish.
I used an old toothbrush to get in the crevices.
Note: this stuff really smells, make sure to use
protective gloves, a mask and protective eye wear
when brushing.

Brass handles, Faux Bamboo in vintage
condition which I love!

Here is the before and after…I really enjoyed this project, not only was it simple but, I love when a plan comes together. The after is truly gorgeous.

Here she is, what do you think?

Cabinets-before

How to cover Cabinet doors with fabric and Mod Podge!

I have I told you that I just have apartment at times? Well I do, they are either very generic or have the worst cabinet ever! Our apartment has really out of date cabinets in the kitchen and please don’t get me started on how small the kitchen is in our apartment. We can only have one person at the time in it. Usually everyone want to be in the kitchen with me when I am trying to cook. At times I wish I had open shelving like in their site. I love the industrial look in the kitchen.
However, I have to work with what I have. As you can imagine I spend a couple of hours in the kitchen cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner and I got very tired at looking at my falling apart old looking cabinets.
Now the question is how can I cover the cabinets with out doing any damage to them because I really would like to keep my deposit.
The answer was very simple modge podge! When I used mod podge it wont damage the cabinet with nails or staples. So I just needed a bold fabric to make a statement.
All you will need are;
Scissors
Mod podge
Brush
Fabric
Trim (optional)
Hot glue (optional)

All I did was cute the fabric to the dimension of each cabinet and applied the mod podge to the door and fabric to each cabinet. The entire project took less than 30 minutes to complete.

Now the inside of the cabinet has the raw edges of the fabric and might not look every nice when you open the cabinet doors so adding a trim to the fabric with hot glue is ideal. The reason for adding it to on top of the fabric is to not damage the cabinet door when you need to remove the fabric.
Ta- Da!!
You have now nicely cover cabinet doors with little damage to them. You can replace the fabric easily and even use scotch guard so they don’t get to messy with time.
What do you thing of my new cabinets? Now I am a little happier cooking in my little kitchen.
See you soon!

Pottery Barn Knock off Swivel Chair tutorial with wrapping paper?

I am very excited to have Nicole from Design it Girl over and she as provided photos of her tutorial about a Pottery Barn knock off swivel chair.

She was very excited to have in her possession a swivel desk chair and could not wait to get to work on it, to tell you the truth I would love to have one too.

The Chair was in very good condition and had no major damages she needed to worry about in fixing which is an A++ when working with chairs.

The thing I love about this swivel chair is the legs. I completely in love with it.

The first thing Nicole did with it was take it apart and get it prepared for sanding. The desk chair was easy enough to take apart. It just had to be dissembled from the bottom.

Then of course the fun begins, the brushes and floor coverage comes out to play.

Now that she was all set with her tools, she started to prime the chair. She felt this chair really need  a face lift.

Kilz Primer was used to prime the chair for painting. Its not pretty right now but once it dries, Nicole will start with the painting process.
Nicole was inspired by a chair featured in the
Pottery Barn website, She loves the Pottery Barn as much as I do but like she said “it
can get very expensive, quickly!”

As you can see Nicole chair has a round back instead of squared back but that did not stop her.

Nicole went out of her comfort zone and tried her hand with something new.
What do you think she used to cover the seat with?

Here is what she had to say about this creative idea about using wrapping paper. I would have never though she use wrapping paper.
“I fell in love with this patterned wrapping paper (gift wrap) from
Target, and knew It would look great on my desk chair. I purchased the roll of wrapping paper (gift wrap) and couldn’t wait to try it. I used spray adhesive (easy to use), takes a few minutes to completely dry, allowing time to position the paper correctly.”

You will need to get a furniture sealer to make sure the paper will not get damaged with time as people sit on it. I can’t believe I have not seen this idea done more often! Its super cute and cheap.

Then just put it all together and Ta-Da!
Now you have a Pottery Barn knock off swivel chair with a little twist to make it your own.
If you love this tutorial because why would you not?! Go check out Design it Girl blog for more wonderful DIY tutorial and show her some love.

I hope you enjoyed the before & after

Anthropologie has Steampunk Lamp?!

I was browsing  Anthropologie.com seeing all the goodies I can’t have and then I found a couple of beauties! I could not believe that Anthropologie actually carry industrial/Steampunk lamps. They are kind of pricey, well very pricey but beautiful non the less. I wish I could own every single lamp.
VIA
The curves of this lamp are fantastic. I just love the industrial/steampunk kind of look the lamp gives off.
VIA
I love this piece because of the giant magnifying glass and can you honestly tell me its not sexy?
VIA
The beautiful piece above is my favorite one because it looks like a flower in the inside but its the metal work that makes it look that way.
VIA
This one up here looks almost like a floor lamp with a magnifying glass attached to it. I just love the presence it give out. It speaks to me “I am all powerful.”
So when you have time stop by your favorite website and take a look and see what new things you can find.
x0x0x,
Everything in this post is 100% my opinion and not paid advertising for Anthropologie. I just like cute things.
Trunk-table

DIY Trunk Coffee Table

I found this cute little old truck over at the Salvation Army and I though it would be so cute as a coffee table/toy storage. My little one always has his toys running around my living room and I though a little storage would go a long way. So I decided to make a DIY Trunk Coffee Table.
Can you imagine that the trunk only cost me $12!
So I went to work on my new trunk.
Materials:
Trunk
Table legs (home depot)
paint (desired colored)
painters tape
brush
The first thing you will need to do is cover the edges and locks with painters tape to make sure you don’t paint over them.
I spent a couple of hours just covering the trunk. It was not fun at all but it needed to be done. Then I went to work on the legs of the trunk. I got my table legs at the Home Depot.

I used a mahogany stain for the table legs. I just love dark wood and of course it matches everything in my home.

After staining the table legs and left to dry, it was time to paint the trunk. As you might have guessed already purple is my favorite color and I decided to paint the trunk that color.
Once everything is dry its time to install the table legs to the trunk. You will need to drill 1/2 inch holes threw the bottom of the trunk.
Now that you are done with all the drilling, you will need to hammer the T-Nuts on top of the holes you just drilled. They will need to be place in the inside of the trunk. The t-nuts help keep the legs in place. The little teeth of the t-nuts dig into the wood to maintain the legs in place.
I have another tutorial on how to install them here.
You will nee to screw the legs from the bottom of the trunk and Ta-Da!
You are now finished with your Truck Coffee Table! All you need to do now is enjoy it.
