RunDisney Avenger 5k

Today was very interesting to say the least. Lets just say every time I have a race things never go as planned and things always get interesting. I always have the kiddos waking me up a few times at night. However, when the hubby gets home, he notices our puppy (which he is not for being 60 pounds and 6 years old) has a swollen lips which mean our furry child was sick. I was so surprises because I had not noticed all day and I was home. In turn the night already begins with worry, we both though maybe he got an insect bite and it might be gone by morning but our puppy seemed to be in a little of discomfort so we give him some benadryl.

rundisney-disneyland run, marathon run, 5k , disney, avengers,

Of course the hubby is telling me to get ready for my run after the kiddos go down for bed late and could not really sleep very well through the night due to excitement and because our puppy kept shaking his head all night. So I am up at 3 am getting ready and head out to Disneyland.

rundisney-disneyland run, marathon run, 5k , disney, avengers,

Once I arrive at Disneyland everything seems to be going okay, however I did notice I got so lucky to get parked at the first row on the very very very last parking spot! I am like okay, it will help me get warmed up with all the walking. Then I get to the waiting area before we are placed in our corral. I found this to be very different from my first ever race with RunDisney which was the Tinkerbell 5k in May. They placed us in random corral as soon as we got there. I did not submit my run time for avenger so of course I got stuck in the the last corral. If you think that’s the worst part let me tell you its not! The worst part is being the last corral and then having to be cold for 2 hours because they started 30 minutes late. As you can imagine trying to keep warm and then trying to warm up your muscles after 2 hours of being cold is no fun at all. They said the late start was due to safety issues. I could see maybe what they meant because the pavement was wet and some what slippery, which is no good for a 7 months pregnant runner as myself.

rundisney-disneyland run, marathon run, 5k , disney, avengers,

So my number one advice is that you should always keep in mind that you will be starting late and submit your time if you can! Due to starting in the last corral I was not able to stop by and get pictures with the avengers. They did have the black widow which is typically not out at Disneyland and a mile markers perfect for pictures. They did not have this for the Tinkerbell 5k. I kept wondering during the Tinkerbell 5k what mile I was on.

rundisney-disneyland run, marathon run, 5k , disney, avengers,

It was not all bad during the race the cast members try cheer you on and they do try to keep you entertained before the race begins but when their are 6,000 racers and you are all the way in the back barely able to see anything at all, its no longer enjoyable. One of the highlight is that I did see actor mostly known from the Goonies, Sean Astin.

Also the racers do not use what they call race etiquette. I got bumbed a few times and while running people who were walking crossed in front of me while knowing what they are doing. So that is my rant about my first RunDisney Avenger 5k and my second RunDisney race.

rundisney-disneyland run, marathon run, 5k , disney, avengers,

In conclusion if running a RunDisney be patient and know that a lot of waiting can happen and submit your time and remember you did this to yourself when you sign up for it. hehe. Also due to the race starting 30 minutes late I had to be stuck in traffic going home over and hour when I only live 15 minutes from the park.

Good luck in your up coming races.

Holiday Decorating with Mason Jars

One of the major holidays is on it way of course I am talking about Christmas which has been in much discussion after the whole Starbucks red cups. I am not against the red cups because I actually though they were very cute and since I don’t drink coffee I never knew they had snowflakes prior. Of course now I just want to go out and get a hot chocolate just so I can get a red cup but enough about the cups and lets talk about Christmas & Holiday decorating with mason jars. I love collecting mason jar and making new things with them for every holiday. I decided to do something simple for this holiday season especially since I have not started decorating yet due to I like to wait for Thanksgiving.

I found the beautiful stenciled mason jars at Target dollar bin from all places! They also have snowflakes but I found the Christmas sweater stencil more appealing.

I had tea light holders that I had previously purchased from my local craft store.

Thanksgiving table setting

The holiday of giving thanks is just around the corner. The truth of the manner is that the end of the year always seems to be the most stressful and busiest for me between holidays and birthdays I just can’t seem to be able to slow down. However, it never stops me from making a few new crafts for every holiday. After Halloween passed I just could not seem to have the heart to put my white pumpkins away. I usually don’t decorate much for Thanksgiving but this year I decided to use the white pumpkins and make it a little bit more festive. You can’t have enough ideas for Thanksgiving table setting, right?! ‘The good thing is that you can always find white pumpkins on sale at your local craft store for just a couple of dollars (wink, wink).

Of course antlers is still the thing to have for decor and I had a few so decided to use them with my white pumpkin. I cut out a hole on the side of the pumpkin and put them through.

Then I took my dried up flowers that I had received and hot glued them to the white pumpkin around the antlers. The pumpkin now looks like it has a cute little flower head dress.

I went to my local super market and got real small white pumpkins and added them to around the larger pumpkin. Easy and fast Thanksgiving table setting center piece is made for the holidays.

I had a larger antler which I placed around the other pumpkins to make the decor complete.

Bedtime Routine Talk, Read and Sing

As mommies we learn pretty fast that having a bedtime routine for any child is key is having a successful quite bed time. I know that if I don’t talk, read and sing to my kiddos before bed that they will go down crying and sneaking out of their rooms. I always try my best to not disturb that routine even when daddy has to work late. At times not having daddy at bedtime can cause a little trouble in my home. Especially since daddy is the one who finishes getting the little energy they might have out of them before bed with playtime.

When it comes to bedtime “Talk Read Sing” is key to keeping everyone happy and mommy very sane. One of the thing I do with my kiddos before bed is reading their favorite books. Of course with the more kiddos you have the more books you end up reading. However, I could never say no when it comes to buying books or reading to them. You always want to expand their imagination and create wonderful memories especially since they won’t stay little for ever.

Talk-read-sing

We also talk about what we read, I always want to make sure my kiddos understand the story and I like to ask questions about what happens in the story and why they think it happened. You can’t imagine the thing you might hear from your kiddos at times.

However, talk should also be happening during the day. I know when I was a new mommy it was hard to talk mostly to myself all day while my kiddo was a baby but they enjoy it so much. Don’t worry you are not the only crazy mommy out their talking to themselves, hehe. I especially like talking while we are gardening. If you don’t believe me doing these simple thing will help then go take a look at First 5 California to find out more.

reading, talking, singing

Singing is my favorite part of the bedtime routine talk, read and sing. My kiddos will not go to bed happy and quietly with out having their song. My mommy was never a singer but my hubby was lucky enough to have a mommy who loved to sing. As a tradition we sing the same song that his mommy did. Each family has their own which will bring sentiment and mean more your family. You might think you don’t have a good singing voice and trust me I don’t either but your kiddos won’t care they will just remember the time you spent with them. They will always cherish those memories more than anything and so will you.

If you are looking for more ideas to share with you family try the First 5 California as a great resource for activities for newborns, babies, toddlers and preschoolers. There’s a whole section (Activity Center) on things that parents can do with their kids to help stimulate the mind.

What is your bedtime routine talk, read sing?

How to make Nightmare Before Christmas Wreath

How to make Nightmare Before Christmas Wreath is the theme of today. If you could have one craft item that will always come in handing it would be the Cameo. You have so many things you can do with it and making my Jack wreath. I could not wait to do my Halloween wreath this year and I went on the hunt for a couple of things to make this happen. I purchased white Christmas ornament , black vinyl, black, white ornaments, and ribbon.

I first went ahead and make the Jack faces with my cameo silhouette with my black vinyl. I attached the adhesive vinyl to the white ornaments.

Once I was done with attaching all the faces I went ahead and started to hot glue the hell out of everything onto the wreath. Oh before I forget since finding a black wreath is extremely difficult, I went ahead and spray painted the wreath black.

nightmare before christmas, Halloween decor, jack wreath, sally wreath, zero, oogie boogie, Holiday decor, Halloween wreath, Cameo silhouette

The last thing to do was to make the Jack inspired bow to go on my wreath. First I cut ribbon in various lengths.

Then I took the ribbon and folded one end to the center of the ribbon and hot glued it. I did the same to the other side. I continued to do this until I finished with all the ribbons. You can do as many or as little as you like for the ribbon. I took all the ribbon and stacked them on top of each other glued them.

I cut a smaller piece of ribbon and wrapped it around the center of my stacked ribbons and hot glued it.

I cut two ribbon pieces the same length to be the tale of the bow and I again hot glued everything together.

Pumpkins and Deer Antlers

The best thing about the fall are pumpkins and deer antlers! I decided to combine both and a completely different way than everyone is doing this holiday season. I decided to combine them together and create monster looking pumpkins in a way. You will only need a few things fake pumpkins and antlers.

I went ahead and cut a top section of the fake pumpkins which I got from my local craft store and made sure the antlers could fit snugged. I used duct tape to secure the antlers to the pumpkin. Then you just have to hang it on the wall, however, I could not stop there.

I used another pumpkin and with hot glue and deer antler tips which I attached to the black pumpkin. It looks now that I have a devilish pumpkin this Halloween holiday.

Please don’t pay too much attention to my hot glue gun, you can see how much I do use it, hehe.

I also used one of the bigger white pumpkins and used a Halloween ribbon which I made a bow.

Halloween Doorbell

Decorating the outside of my door is always my main priority, I always feel like everyone needs to know that I love Halloween and that the outside represents how my inside of my home looks like full of creepy decor. Since my favorite movie it Hocus Pocus I focus on the eyeball book of spells and decided to make a Halloween doorbell with eyeballs. I went in search for a realistic looking eyeball. I looked at my local craft store and I only found plastic cheap looking eyeball or foam eyeballs. Finally I went in search online and long and behold I found some on ebay! I purchased them from an actual prop maker and they look so real.

The first thing I did was get my frame and cut cardboard to fit behind the frame. I followed by cutting a small hole in the middle of the cardboard so my eyeball will fit snugly in the middle of it.

I then used my red velvet and cut the center of it as well to the eyeball will go through it. I also added some batting between the red velvet and cardboard.

I went ahead and hot glued the red velvet fabric to the back of the cardboard and then hot glued everything to the frame.

Ta-da! All done you know have a Halloween doorbell. I used command strips to hang it on the outside of the door so I did not have to leave any holes. However, due to my hallway being so dark I decided to take the final pictures on my wall. But when a guest press my eyeball to ring my door they always seem a little creep out.

Upcycled Halloween inspired tray

Its the best time of the and it means it Halloween. I joined other blogger in making upcycled Halloween inspired tray which we all got from out local target. I decided to transform my tray completely and of course I had a little help from the hubby. I learned a couple new things from the hubby and I ended with a beautifully haunted Halloween tray. If you are telling yourself you can’t make out little Halloween diorama, you can always go to your local craft store and purchase miniature figures to make your very own upcycled Halloween inspired tray like ours.

upcycled Halloween inspired tray, Halloween pumpkins, Halloween crafts, Halloween diy, Halloween tray, target inspired, clay Halloween village, miniature Halloween figures,

We began by making each little figure by hand and using sculpey hard clay, which we like to use due because it wont deform under the heat of your hand. The last thing you want is to keep leaving your finger print or nail prints all over your clay while working with it.

upcycled Halloween inspired tray, Halloween pumpkins, Halloween crafts, Halloween diy, Halloween tray, target inspired, clay Halloween village, miniature Halloween figures,

Once we completed all the sculpting we prime them black to make them easier to paint. My hubby used a combination of hand painting and air brushing. Its super fun to air brush and I can’t wait to use it in my other projects in the futures.

Using the tray I decided to used fake grass from my local craft store and real dirt on top of that to add another dimension. I covered the sided of the tray with tape to make sure the dirt will not fall out and make a mess all over my house.

I went ahead and then began placing my figures in the tray. However, something still seemed to be missing and I got my little miniature fence to hot glue around the tray. I was so happy with the end result and I am thinking of expanding my little Halloween village

Sizzix Zombie Mason Jar

I was so excited to see the new Halloween sizzix zombie die cut! They also have some other ghoulish monsters available. I decided to use the sizzix zombie and turn into a Halloween mason jar. I enjoy making holiday themed mason jars and I can’t wait make many home this Halloween season. One of the many reasons I enjoy using paper craft during the holiday season is because it can be easily stored or made again if it gets damaged. I do have two little kiddos and enjoy making crafts with me and paper crafts is something everyone can enjoy.

The first thing I did one I got my zombie sizzix die cut from Tim Holtz I believe, was take everything out from the package. It might seemed a little over whelming at first but it does come with basic instructions.

sizzix die cut, tim holtz, paper crafts, halloween tim holtz, halloween crafts, mason jar, sizzix zombie,

I used my big shot to do all the die cuts. I also used Tim Holtz line of kraft paper to do all the pieces.

Once everything was cut I looked over the instructions and started to glue everything together. I used pop up glue dots to make thing more dimensional.

I then needed something to help my zombie head stay standing. I took a piece of paper and folded it in half followed by also folding the ends. I then glue the ends together and to the zombie head.

Now I needed to do the base of the mason jar. I took paper and red felt with my hot glue gun and glued it to the base.

Halloween Pumpkin Diorama

As I unpacked all the Halloween decor this year. I found that I had a lot of pumpkins. I was wondering what I would do with all the pumpkins that would be different from last year and I remembered that I had a lot of decorative Halloween miniatures. The idea of a Halloween pumpkin diorama was born. I’ve been waiting to to a diorama of some sort for a while and was excited finally be using my miniatures since I’ve been purchasing them every year when they go on sale at the end of the Halloween season. The truth is that the best time to purchase Halloween decor is after Halloween, hehe.

I grabbed my fake white pumpkin and cut the back of it with a knife.

I then went a head and painted the inside with black acrylic paint. Once it was try I went ahead and started to add the Halloween miniatures and some moss to add more texture. I also added some light to the inside to illuminated it and everyone can see it a little better.

I added some cardboard at the bottom to lift the grave sit up so it can be more visible and I also hid the light switch.

Last but not least I added a bow to the top of the pumpkin. I used a ribbon that I had purchased last year from the local craft store.
