One night while coming home we found two jewels by the side of the dumpster. We have dinner parties with friend and we never have enough seating. We took the opportunity and grabbed this two chairs. I just hated the color they had on them. I am more of a dark wood kind of girl and decided to completely change the color.
I went white on the first chair. I used Krylon spray paint. I
used a non gloss white with primer paint. I did not want
to sand the chairs down and that is the reason I use a primer. Since I live in a apartment complex I had to make my own little covered area to spray paint. I used old cardboard and wooden shelf from a broken down bookshelf. As you can see from the picture below spray paint gets everywhere.
After three coats and two spray paint cans later it was all finished! I only used the clear acrylic sealer for the white chair. The white paint felt hard on the chairs and so we used the clear acrylic sealer on it. The red chair I purchased gloss paint and primer from Krylon so it left it smooth and glossy.
It still felt like the white chair needed something to make it pop. I am a big fan of sticker stencil. I went to Michaels and used my 50 % off coupon on this DW stencil. The chair was too small to use the entire stencil so I cut out the words I wanted to use.
I used Love for the red chair and I used Live every minute for the white chair.
I just love how they look now.

The white chair still looked a little blah, so I added some old fashion stencil to it. I used acrylic black paint.

Wa-la! It looks so much better!!

I love the red one. I have these chairs from my mom...hmmm I was going to do black but red would be fun around my table!
I love the red one! Great job on both. They remind me of the chairs my parents used to have.

so cute! I'm dying to see some more shots of the red beauty.
Very cute! How awesome that you found them by a dumpster. Way to go girl, you saved them from being crushed. They both are very cute, but being the 'red' lover that I am, the red one stole my heart. Visiting from White Wednesday.
Hugs,
Jann

What a great idea to stencil them. I had almost the exact same chairs and sold them at a yard sale last year. Wish I'd thought to jazz them up a bit, maybe I would have found room for them!
Thanks for linking to Refresh Your Nest Friday and hope to see you back there tomorrow!
