Handy Man, Crafty Woman Interview

We have Laurie from Handy Man, Crafty Woman she was so awesome about taking part of this 14 days of blogger interviews. I hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did.

1. The one question that you all might get asked the most is, What got you in to blogging?

I kept coming across some really interesting DIY & craft blogs, and I wanted to start one of my own.  My husband and I do a lot of DIY projects, so I knew I’d have plenty of material.  It looked  like a fun topic to blog about.

2. What made you decide to blog about crafting?
I liked the idea of taking photos of my scrapbook pages and paper crafts, and posting them on my blog to share with others.

3. What other talents do you have that your bloggers might not know about?
In July, I started to write fiction, and I’ve delved into learning how to write fiction.  I haven’t talked about it on my blog yet...but I guess the cat’s out of the bag!   I wouldn’t call it a talent yet, but I’d like to get there, someday.

4. Do you have any advice to new bloggers?
Do some research by looking at blogs you admire for inspiration.  But don’t spend too much time on that; work on writing the best posts you can on a consistent basis.  Work on taking better photos in natural light.  Keep your blog design simple, clean and easy to navigate.

5. Do you feel competition from other bloggers?
I used to, when I first started.  But it’s impossible to “keep up” with other bloggers.  You need to work on your blog at your own pace.

6. What's your favorite craft project?
I love craft projects that have to do with paper.  Scrapbooking, making cards, envelopes, gift tags; any kind of paper crafts.

7. What blogger do you admire the most or what blog do you visit the most?
Just one? Can I break the rules and talk about two?  I love DIY Home Staging. I love Barbara’s writing style, and she has so many simple and inexpensive decorating ideas.  I also love to read House of Hepworths.  Allison has a great voice, she cracks me up.  I’m always amazed at the amount of projects she completes in her house every month.

8. Where do you see your blogging career taking you?
I’m not sure, to be honest.  My blog has changed a little in the past six months.  I like how it’s evolved.  I intend to keep blogging as long as I keep having ideas.

9. Where do you see your blog in five years?
I hope I can continue to write a blog that people want to read, and continue to develop friendships with readers and bloggers.

10. How many hours a week do you spend blogging?
I used to spend more hours when I first started my blog.  I’ve tried to get organized and streamline the process, now I strive to keep it to less than 10 hours per week.

11. If you are a new blogger do you seek help from others?
When I first started, I looked at similar DIY/craft blogs for inspiration.  I also read a lot of “how to blog” and “how to grow your blog” articles on those sites, and on the internet.

12. How many post do you typically put up on a week?
I like to post twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.   Once in a while, if I’m overflowing with ideas, I’ll post on a Friday.

Anything else you would like to add?

Thanks for the interview, Loren!

Thank you again for joining me & Laurie today,  I hope to see you tomorrow!
